On our second day in Aswan we swam lazily in the pool and then had lunch on the terrace at the Old Cataract Hotel. We took the local ferry to Elephantine Island, visiting the museum and archaeological site. The museum has a small collection including pre-pharonic up until Graeco-Roman finds. The site includes a temple dedicated to Khnum and another with statues of Heqaibes. We walked down to the shore and sat on an elephant shaped rock. Of course a Nubian came up offering a felucca, then chatted for a while and finally tried to persuade George to swap watches. We walked back to the ferry via one of the nubian villages - narrow streets, colourful houses, women in black sitting outside (mostly oldish), children shouting 'hello'. Everyone here asks for pens if you refuse money. Back on the ferry.
