We had an early start as the landlady has to go to work (as a dinner lady). We did another circuit round Cromarty then took the Nigg ferry where we were excited to see dolphins in Cromarty Firth. The rain made us rather wet so we sheltered at Fortrose which has a nice beach with fishing nets. We stopped in Tain for lunch, then took a nice road along Dornoch Firth, seeing a small brown deer on the way. We took the route up the west side by Carbisdale castle instead of going via Bonar Bridge. This involved crossing by the new foot bridge to Inveshin. The bridge is accessed via a walk across a field and down a lot of steps, which meant removing the panniers. We then took the route via the very fast and foamy Shin Falls, where we saw a young salmon trying to go up. We sheltered from the heavy rain in a barn and then went onto Lairg for a B&B. Lairg has two dams, with two levels of loch. Meal in Nigg Inn where we talked to caravanners.
