Ourika Valley walk to Berber villages

Today we have a new guide - Adil from Setti Fadma (at the end of the week he told us his real name is Mohamed). We took the bus to Fraght and crossed the river by a suspended wire bridge. We walked up a steep zigzag path to a plateau containing a collection of Berber villages: Tizi, Annamer and Aguerre. We saw very different landcsapes from the day before with many streams and waterfalls. There are many highly cultivated terraces with wheat, grass and white blossomed fruit trees. Also goats, sheep, cows and chickens. We walked through the three villages, had a picnic by a waterfall and then mint tea on the terrace of a house in the middle village. From the distance, the berber houses appear to have holes instead of windows, but on closer inspection, the holes in the outer wall light a terrace and the inner house wall has windows. We walked down by a different path and were picked up by the coach.

We sat on the hotel terrace and watched the sunset, meanwhile observing three bulbuls by the hotel and several egrets flying around and landing near the water. Egrets are white members of the heron family, but fly less laboriously.

Very good mixed vegetable salad for a starter and then chicken and vegetable tagines.
