Languedoc - Roussillon by Tandem
16th September-3rd October 2011
Perpignan to Montpellier via the Cathar castles and Corbières vineyards
Another very enjoyable tour in a fascinating region of France, marred at the end by a failure of our tandem. (We used our custom Moulton Tandem fully described here.)
As always, we enjoyed the freedom and serendipity of cycle touring and the total immersion in the countryside that it brings. Scrumping for ripe figs and grapes were amongst the highlights. One farmer even stopped his laden tractor to offer us a grappe from his vendange.
Total distance cycled was about 450 km – about 100 km less than we planned.

•The pages of this travel blog are organised by days. Each day has a map showing where we were, a description of the day’s activities and some illustrative photos. Use the Next button to move forward a day or the links in the navigation bar at the top to jump to a page. The maps have overlays showing our route, but those may take a while to load.
•We used the European Bike Express to travel from London to Perpignan and to return from Montpellier. It’s a journey of nearly 24 hours, but you do get a chance to stretch your legs on the channel ferry, stops at cafes and some great views.
