Cairo: the pyramids at Giza

We went to Giza on our first day to see the pyramids. The pyramids at Giza date from about 2500 BC. The oldest and biggest is the pyramid of Cheops. Next to Cheop's pyramid is a museum containing a solar barque that was used to bring him to the pyramid and buried for his use in the after life. It's about 40m. long and in good condition, even the ropes have survived . The other big pyramids are Chefren's and Menkaure's which we went inside. From the top of the hill is a distant view of another group of pyramids at Saqqara and Abu Sir. Nearby is the sphinx. In the evening we went back to see the sound and light show at the sphinx. Laser beams were used to explain the contents of the pyramids and hieroglyphs. The story was a dramatised tale of pharoahs, illustrating what was learned from hieroglyphs - even their love letters.
