Aswan - first day

We travelled from Cairo to Aswan on the sleeper train, arriving early in the morning. We booked into the New Cataract Hotel (which is next door to the well-known but more expensive Old Cataract). We took a felucca from the bank by the hotel downstream to see the first cataract. The Nile is very picturesque with samll islands, granite rocks and feluccas everywhere. We saw ibis, kingfisher and heron. In the evening we took the local ferry to the west bank. It has segregated seating. Meal in the Aswan Moon restaurant - baba ganoosh, grilled fish and egyptian pudding.
